Exploration and Development of Coloured Gemstones
True North Gems is a Vancouver based junior resource company aimed towards the exploration and development of coloured gemstones. Their major focus right now is to develop a conflict-free ruby resource in Greenland. Currently, 90% of the world’s ruby resources are located in Myanmar, Burma; however, this ruby industry is helping to fund their military regime.
Rubies are one of the rarest gems on the planet. One of the most desired rubies are the colour of “pigeon’s blood” which is a pure red stone with a hint of blue, but is only found in the mines of Myanmar. Due to the shortage of ethically sourced rubies, True North Gems has discovered a new source on the southwest coast of Greenland which will rival those in Myanmar. Since exploration began in 2004, more than 48 tonnes of rubies and pink sapphire have been processed.
The company is also involved with projects for Yukon emerald, Baffin Sapphire, and Yukon nickel.
